R.J. Reynolds' grandson to speak against smoking/Huge Barf Alert Maine Freepers!
16 September 2002 | Michael O'D.Moore

ORONO-Patrick Reynolds knows two things about tobacco:  it made his family rich, and it took the lives of his father, brother and aunt.

The man whose grandfather; R.J. Reynolds, founded the company that makes Camel and Winston cigarettes is bringing his campaign against smoking to the Bangor area this week.  He will speak at two lectures open to the public:  7 p.m. Tuesday at the Donald P. Corbett Business Building at the University of Maine in Orono, and at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rangeley Hall at Eastern Maine Technical College in Bangor.

Eastern Maine Technical College - sponsor of Reynolds' visit along with Bangor Region Partners for Health and several private donors - has survey data showing that one-third of its student body smokes three times a week or more, said Cathy Marquez, EMTC substance abuse counselor.  Marquez notes the rate is just 24 percent of all students in a group of similar colleges.

EMTC has instituted a no-smoking policy in its buildings.  Smoking is only allowed in designated areas on campus.

On Friday, officials from EMTC, BRPH and SAD 11 in Hampden visited the Bangor Daily News to talk about the upcoming lectures and about trends in student smoking.

Last year, Hampden students made up one of four groups making an advertisement for the Bureau of Health's "Tobacco Sucks" campaign.  According to School Helath Coordinator John Plourde and Superintendent Richard Lyons, 5.7 percent of middle school students in SAD 22 smoke, compared to 11.7 percent of students statewide.  But by high school, 30.2 percent of Hampden's students are smoking, compared to 28.6 percent statewide.

Hampden is working on a wide range of smoking cessation efforts, including a program aimed at fourth-graders developed in cooperation with Eastern Maine Medical Center's Family Group Practice;  youth advocacy groups within Hampden Academy; and health education classes in kindergarten through grade 12.

I just wrote to this guy on the 13th.  He is starting to "peddle his wares" again.  Must be hard up for cash.  Look at who is "donating" to his cause!

Patrick Reynolds!  I have NO respect for you.  I have no FAITH in you!  You spew nothing but inaccurate, deceitful and dishonest lies to the general public.

You want the real truth about tobacco??  I started smoking in 1958.  My parents smoked, but told me even that far back that if they caught me smoking, they would KILL me!  My Mom put me into dance class when I was 8 years-old.  When I hit High School, all my girl friends smoked.  They were constantly telling me "here have one!"  Even back then, I had heard that smoking is not good for us. And I told my friends, "No thanks. I am a "dancer."  I can't smoke."  Well, they caught me on an off day, offered me a cigarette.  I inhaled the first time, and thought I was going to die.  It took quite awhile for me to finally relax and enjoy a cigarette when my friends and I got together.  My point is this, Patrick:
back in those days, the cigarette packs contained the total of tar and nicotine.  Back then, over "50' years ago, we ALL knew that smoking was not good for us.

But it surely isn't the killer that you are making it out to be.  I can't stand BEER!  I have tried and tried to acquire a taste for it.  I hate kissing my husband when he has "beer breath."  It stinks! This is the same thing you tout about smoking! Why aren't you going after alcohol?  We lost more teens this summer in twisted pieces of metal that used to be a car because they drank and drove!  I sure wished those teens had smoked instead.  They would still be here with us.

I have had many friends throughout my life who tried to "acquire" a taste for smoking!  They could not.  So how can you say with a straight face that it takes very little to get a person hooked.

My one grandmother died at age 42 full of cancer.  Never smoked a day in her life.  My other grandmother lived to be 86! Smoked THREE packs of NON-filtered CAMELS a day!  She did from old age.
I think your stats are totally made up to benefit yourself, Patrick.

Smoking like most things today are not good for us.  How many things can you come up with today that does not have a Government warning?  And did you know about the Surgeon Generals report that OBESITY has passed smoking for health problems and health care?  How about that, Patrick! Will you now receive funding to go after the OBESE??!!

You have your teeth sunk so deep into the adults who choose to smoke a legal product you can't see straight!  You have a beef against your family, so you turn your back on them and go after us.

Well, Patrick, it's going to take a bigger man then you to convince us that the "United Smoke Free States of America" is the way to go!  We aren't going to take this anymore!  We are tired of you and your ilk.  Your being funded with blood money to continue your pathetic war on the smokers.

We, as private citizens are NOT receiving funding.  We work to protect our rights to smoke and we are working to protect the rights of the private business owners.  We are building up, fast, Patrick.  Both smokers and non-smokers alike.  We are not going to take it anymore! And private citizens DO have the right to speak up!

Two more things we are working on.  Getting out the TRUTH ourselves.  For instance:  you keep these study's swept under the rug, but we are getting the following links out to EVERYONE about second hand smoke:

Federal Court Rules Against EPA on Second Hand Smoke

And better yet, I think any anti who tries to dismiss the findings of the U.S. Department of Energy labs at Oak Ridge, should be confronted with the question: "Are you saying that DOE researchers committed scientific fraud and that their findings on ETS exposure are untrue?"

Oak Ridge Labs & Second Hand Smoke

I know my words mean nothing to you! But I felt compelled to write to you just to let you know that you will be facing opposition! One can only pray that the American's will soon find out the real truth about you and your kind!

Okay, I don't get it. So no one is to say a word against tobacco, or it's a "barf alert"?

Sorry, friend, but the only "barf alerts" I give out in regard to tobacco is when someone lights up in my vicinity.

Smokers, like other drug addicts, have their heads so far up, no wonder the smoke doesn't bother 'em.

The attorneys probably and rightly so cut his ass out (just a figure of speech) of any trust funds that were previously set.

Probably doesn't know how to hold a shovel or where to stick it...

You got that right! He is STILL making money off of the smokers. The Maine Human Services gets a big chunk of the Tobacco Settlement Money to which the smokers PAY for, and they are paying HIM! So he is STILL taking blood money!

Sorry "my friend," but we don't want the whole world and you can't have it either. Like it or not, we are all on the same planet.

I wish I had the time to go after little two-faced psychologically unstable shitz like this and show publically the "family tree" and the intertwined corporate charts that may allow other monies to flow to this spoiled brat.

Thanks for your efforts to expose the hypocracy of not only this type of crap, but the suits in general...

Is this piece of puke going to give back every dollar of inheritance from a company/family that has inflicted such damage on the people? If not, he's just another opportunistic piece of liberal garbage.

"Eastern Maine Technical College - sponsor of Reynolds' visit along with Bangor Region Partners for Health and several private donors"

Bangor Region "Partners for a Tobacco Free Maine," seems they have "adopted" another new name to cover-up!  They are getting a big chunk of the Tobacco Settlement Money, to which the smoker's who buy cigarettes in Maine are paying for 100%!

This Patrick is being "paid" by them, and guess who's pockets it's really coming out of? OURS!!!  The smokers are getting kicked in the shins, paying for it and supposed to love it!

Oh sure. All the "do-gooders" will attend his lectures and suck up to him, and hand him a wade of cigarette tax dollars. Doncha love it?!

Thanks, Great Dane. His name has been popping up again recently (I figure he must be broke), and I wrote that to him on the 13th. Now, Hubby showed me in today's paper where this lame duck is coming to Maine tonight and tomorrow.

He is STILL being paid by the smokers. The twerp!

"They have the money, the backing, the time, the people... we are the rag-tag phony Indians in Boston and the tobacco was tea."

Isn't that awful? Might be Patrick, himself. LOL!!

This just blows my mind about all of this. He is talking against the smoker out of one side of his mouth, with his hand out taking our money and saying "thank you for bending over for me," out the other side of his mouth. Just blows me away.

Can you think of one thing today that doesn't have a Government warning on it? If we followed all of that, we would rock ourselves to death in a corner somewhere, being fearful of life.

You suppose has the largest per centage of smokers in the NE because they have the highest taxes in the country.

Of course if everybody in the state quit smoking taxes would go up.

So smokers in Maine smoke smoke that cigarette, your state government needs you unitl you are dead.

Oncew you are dead they need to recuit to more to fill their coffers.
